Beyond Broken

Credentials

My Training and Credentials

I began my career as a special education teacher, and went on to work in human services organizations after earning a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Virginia. I also had a twenty-five-year career as a business executive and entrepreneur, as co-founder of a global technology company. But my longing to understand more fully what it means to be human — our emotions, our bodies, our spiritual purpose, how we relate to each other — led to my study of Pathwork in 1993. After five years of study and self-work, I went on to complete the five-year Pathwork Helpership Training in 2003. This training is comparable to psychotherapy training except that it requires intense self-work, individually and in groups, for five years prior to, during and after training. The training also includes elements of transpersonal psychology such as ritual celebration, spiritual practices, meditation, breathwork, and bioenergetic analysis (body work in the form of Core Energetics). There is a strong focus on self-responsibility and service to a higher purpose.

After a few years of practice as a Pathwork Helper, I began seeking to expand my “toolbox” with other modalities. I became certified in Hellinger Family Constellation work and in Diane Poole Heller’s Dynamic Attachment Re-Patterning Experience (DARe). I then embarked on training as a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, a five-year program which I completed in 2021.

I have chosen not to become a licensed psychotherapist, so my practice is one of helping people to understand themselves and to become more loving using the skill and wisdom I have acquired, without the impediments of licensure. If you prefer to work with a licensed psychotherapist, I know many fine professionals and am happy to refer you.

A note from a workshop attendee...
"Wendy, when I am with you I feel that you understand and are able to hold a space that most people are unaware exists. This is powerfully magnetic and comforting."

Spring Gardening

There are so many meaningful metaphors that can be found in a garden to represent aspects of life. Read more to learn about the metaphor I found in the small, sturdy essential Tap Root of a weed.
